The whole country is euphoric with her victory over terrorism.

Never before had Sri Lanka been so happy, ecstatic, united under a one feeling …

Prabakaran is no more. LTTE is crushed and Sri Lanka united under one flag.

Tomorrow at 8.30AM, our President will address the nation.
Tomorrow he will tell us where he will take our country. He will reiterate his vision of a united Sri Lanka where all races continue to live peacefully in mutual understanding- a vision of a prosperous nation that produces its keep.

He will invite everybody to join in this endeavor of nation building; Sinhala, Tamil, Muslim, Burgher and all.
He will invite the Sri Lankan expatriates, especially the Tamil Diaspora to come and join hands with us.

How the future generations of Sri Lankans will one day regard the Tamil Diaspora depends on how they, the Tamil Diaspora heeds this call.

I hope that they take the right decision.

There had been an attack on the Sirasa premises at Depanama, Pannipitiya early this morning.

Last night (before the attack) one of the Sirasa security guards at the building said that some people in plate-less white vans came and scared him by parading in front of the gate.

This morning the Sirasa channels are full of nothing but the attack. It is mostly the showing of the damaged/destroyed AV equipment and the broadcasting of pre-recorded ‘condolence messages’ from ‘dignitaries’. They tried some live messages but had to stop midway because some of the speakers, for example the chief incumbent of the Bellanwila Temple, stated to say things about the ‘terrorist lover’ tendencies of the channel- so they demonstrated their unbiasedness and media freedom by cutting out the live telephone connection…

According to them the attack is a significant one but as apparent by their almost jovial reporting of their ‘sad sad moment’ their news making capability hasn’t been effected at all…

So this led me into some thinking…
Who is behind the attack?

As implied by Sirasa (white van on a previous day etc., they having invented and associated the ‘white van’ concept with the state) it is the state.

But before jumping to these pre-cooked conclusions as prepared by the terrorist-lover hands behind Sirasa News First, let’s try to find out the answer to the age-old question in crime investigation: “who benefits from this crime?

There has to be a beneficiary, since according to Sirasa (white van scare at the gate on a previous day) this is pre-meditated. So it is not a ‘crime of passion’ against one of the remaining mouth pieces of the LTTE propaganda machine.

So who benefits?
The answer is obvious…

Who gets the sympathy of the ‘clueless Colombo posh class as lead by the permanent opposition leader Mr. Ranil Wickremasinghe’ who are so fond of projecting Sri Lanka as a failed state?

Who gets ammunition in the big lie of projecting Sri Lanka as a ‘country without any media freedom’?
Paradoxically, media like Sirasa, Sunday Leader, Irudina, etc. etc. (get the idea…) are saying that there is no media freedom while enjoying and at times abusing the very same media freedom they say is not present.

Who increases the rating of their TV channels (and earns a lot of advertising money) by feasting on the news of a ‘media station being attacked in Colombo’?

So who benefits the most?
Obviously it is Sirasa itself!

I hope that the investigation teams strongly consider the possibility that the Sirasa attack is an ‘inside job’, after all, everything that was destroyed would have been fully insured….

The question of existence; life after death; solution to the economical and ethnic problems of the world, of Sri Lanka; the honesty and capability of the politicians, of the Sri Lankan President; the militaristic defeatism of the LTTE terrorists; …

We all have our own opinion.

Given vastly different opinions on the same subject, it is impossible for all of them to be correct at the same time- is it not?

Yet, most, stubbornly continue to cling on to their old opinions despite all the evidence to the contrary.

Many continued to believe that the Earth is flat (as well as being the center of the whole universe) for a very long time after it was conclusively proved otherwise.

Giving up an opinion, on any subject, held dearly for a long time is very painful.

For many, it is personal …

It would seem better to ignore the facts staring at your face rather than go through an intelligent inquiry and the possibility of a painful realization of the currently held fallacies.

If you grew up believing that Sinhalese people are monsters with fangs in their mouths and horns in their heads who delight in devouring Tamil children for dinner, then it would be painfully difficult to get you to sit together for a family dinner with me. I am Sinhalese myself and last time I checked I neither have horns nor fangs. Oh, and I haven’t eaten anybody. 🙂

If you believe that Sri Lanka is a failed state going further down the road of anarchy and economic strife with nobody capable of fixing it, and the best bet for you is to seek better pastures oversees, then no amount of visible evidence to the promising development going on in many sectors of the country would convince you otherwise.

It is all very, very, sad.
But of course, they say that every man is an island to themselves- you do have every right to withdraw in to a cocoon of denial and wither in a ball of pessimism.

But it is alright, ‘cause us optimists, believe that with or without you pessimists, slowly but surely, Sri Lanka is rising!
